Sky Broadband has plans to release a WiFi 6 enabled router specially designed for residential FTTP customers, according to reports.
The anticipated launch window for the new router falls between late Q3 and early Q4 2023. As of now, Sky has remained tight-lipped, sharing no specs with the public.
Currently, Sky offers the SR200 series Sky Broadband Hub for its fibre packages. The company might be planning to optimise its top-tier Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) connections with an upgraded router.
While Sky has not shared any specifics regarding the new router, it is likely that it might adapt the WiFi 6 enabled router (BR440) it recently launched for its business broadband customers.
The residential version of this router is likely to have fewer phone ports, catering more to the needs of home users. Sky may include the latest WPA3 encryption standard in the new router, providing enhanced security for its customers.
The BR440 business broadband router, manufactured by Arcadyan, boasts a range of features such as 4 x gigabit Ethernet ports, 4 x analogue phone ports, 1 x USB 3.0 port, and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (5GHz and 2.4GHz) with WPA2-PSK encryption. It also includes a 12V 3A, 36W external AC-DC power supply.
