BT fibre optic broadband (Infinity) customers will be provided with new, updated modems.
The earlier modems which customers received before August 2011, require replacement due to a hardware issue that could cause overheating and disconnection of the service, it has been believed.
BT Infinity customers will get the new modem (Huawei EchoLife HG612) for free which the service operator claims can improve the broadband connection.
“We can confirm that Openreach has been replacing some of its modems with more reliable updated versions. This is because the connection could sometimes drop with some of the early modems that we deployed.” BT said.
However, the existing modems can be used without any safety risks, until the replacement takes place, the provider added. As for the modems that BT dispatched to its customers after August 2011, are not affected by this problem of ‘overheating’.
