Gig 2 fibre broadband is the fastest internet plan offered by Virgin Media and is only available in areas covered by its next-generation full-fibre XGS-PON network.

The plan delivers an average download speed of 2Gbps and upload speed of 200Mbps.

The service costs £69.99 per month and comes with free setup. There is minimum 18 months contract, after which the price increases to £84 per month. If you go for symmetrical speeds (where download and upload speeds are the same), you can get it for an additional £6 per month.

With the Gig 2 plan, Virgin Media provides a WiFi 6-enabled Hub 5x router. This ensures strong and fast WiFi, with a minimum WiFi speed guarantee of 30Mbps.

You can also add optional extras, like anytime phone calls for £10 more per month, or a TV package with either the TV 360 box or the Stream box.

2Gbps download speed

Gig2 broadband plan offers gigabit speeds of 2Gbps (2000Mbps) download speed.  While 100Mbps is good for an average home, Gig2 is 20 times faster. It is ideal for very large homes and can support more than 15 users at once for activities like ultra HD (4K and 8K) streaming, online gaming, and fast downloads.

For those who need high speeds but don’t need 2Gbps, Virgin Media also offers a Gig1 plan. This plan provides 1130Mbps download speed at a lower monthly cost compared to Gig2.

200Mbps / 2000Mbps upload speed

Gig2 broadband plan comes with a superfast upload speed of 200Mbps. While this is not symmetrical (meaning the upload speed is lower than the download speed), 200Mbps is still very fast. It is more than enough for video calls, online gaming, and other common online activities.

However, if multiple users in your home are doing these tasks at the same time, you may need even faster upload speeds. Gig2 provides an option to upgrade to symmetrical speeds, where both the upload and download speeds are 2000Mbps (2Gbps).  This add-on will cost an extra £6 per month.

Gig2 WiFi and Hub 5x router

The latest Virgin Media Hub 5x is very similar to the previous Hub 5 in terms of specifications. The main difference is that the Hub 5x can handle speeds of up to 10Gbps. Like the Hub 5, it uses 802.11ax technology, also known as WiFi 6, which provides faster and more reliable wireless connections.

The Hub 5x comes with dual bands, which means it can connect devices on two different frequency ranges for better performance. It also has four ethernet ports—one 10Gb port and three 1Gb ports—allowing for faster wired connections. There are seven built-in antennae for strong WiFi coverage, and it includes WPA3 security for better protection.

It comes with usual features liike a guest network option, option for a phone line connection and WiFi pods to extend your WiFi coverage throughout your home.

Minimum Guaranteed Speed and WiFi Guarantee

The estimated download speed for Gig2 is 2020Mbps. However, the minimum guaranteed speed is just 1000Mbps. If the provider cannot deliver this minimum speed, you have the right to cancel the service without paying an exit fee.

Virgin Media also offers a WiFi guarantee as an add-on for  £8 per month . This add-on promises minimum WiFi speeds of 30Mbps in every room of your home. You get WiFi pods or boosters to achieve these speeds in problem areas. If you don’t get the promised speeds, you can claim £100 bill credit

Anytime Calls

Virgin Media offers an add-on for Gig2 broadband called “Anytime Calls.” This add-on costs £10 per month. With Anytime Calls, you can make unlimited home phone calls to UK landlines and mobiles at any time of the day. You can opt for this add-on if you regularly make phone calls and want to avoid standard rates.

TV packages

If you want to add TV to your Gig2 broadband, you have two options: Stream TV or TV 360 packages.

Stream TV comes with a TV box, freeview channels, and access to streaming apps like BBC iPlayer. It costs less when compared to TV 360 packages.

Virgin Media TV 360 packages come with premium TV box and more entertainment and sports channels.
